Description:
Medical Assisting provides instruction in taking and recording vital signs, preparing patients for
examination, patient education, and assisting the physician during patient exams. The collecting and
preparation of laboratory specimens and basic laboratory tests will be covered. Students will learn the
administration of medication, venipuncture, ECG, and wound care. It provides a basic understanding of
the clinical and administrative duties and responsibilities pertinent to medical offices. This includes
instruction in medical office procedures such as appointment scheduling, telephone etiquette, and
record keeping. Students will learn medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, infection control,
along with medical law and ethics. Students will explore a wide array of medical careers and learn
professional career readiness skills. Learning takes place in our classroom lab setting that includes
medical office and hospital patient rooms that provide immersive learning experiences on manikins and
state of the art medical equipment.
Students who complete the program with a 70% or higher will be eligible to take the National Health
Care Association CCMA certification exam.
